Kites Away!
Mike Illich has a goal to fly his kite from the deck of each of the eighteen downtown bridges.
He had already flown kites from the bridges at N. Michigan Ave., N. Columbus Dr., and N. Clark St. On January 14, 2010 he began his quest for the rest when he flew his kite from the N. Dearborn St. bridge (see photos on this page).
He continues to make excellent progress. Mike has flown kites from the decks of the bridges at: N. Wabash Ave.; N. State St.; N. Dearborn St.; N. La Salle St.; N. Wells St.; N. Franklin St.; and W. Lake St. In addition, Mike has flown his kite from the W. Harrison St. bridge (second bridge south of Van Buren St.) On July 24th Mike added the Lake Shore Dr. bridge.
More photos will be posted as they become available. Keep flying Mike!
WGN aired a story on Mike on the first day of spring in 2008. The clip is shown at the bottom of this page.
